Faces and stories from afar

Among my favourite captures are the faces of people. Whether it's a fleeting glance or a shared smile, these interactions tell compelling stories. Each person encountered on my travels adds a unique thread to the tapestry of the journey, creating a deeper connection to the places I visit. They embody the heart of wanderlust.

Architecture speaks volumes about history and culture. From grand cathedrals to humble dwellings, these structures hold stories within their walls. I am fascinated by how light plays on their forms, revealing details that transport you through time. It's a privilege to capture their enduring beauty and share their narratives with you.

The Colosseum in Rome, Italy, is the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built, completed in 80 AD.  🇮🇹

Sa Pa, Vietnam street portraitist. They are known for creating quick, expressive pencil or charcoal sketches of tourists and locals, capturing the vibrant atmosphere of the mountain town. 🇻🇳 

Wat Phuak Hong ("Temple of the Flight of Swans") is an ancient temple located within the old walled city of Chiang Mai, Thailand. The temple is best known for its unique, circular chedi (pagoda) that features seven tiers of diminishing size. 🇻🇳 

The iconic Plaza de España in Seville, Spain. The plaza was constructed in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition and is a prime example of Renaissance Revival architecture. 🇪🇸

A stunning showcase of traditional Emirati costume, featuring an intricately embroidered black and gold thobe, an embellished burqa, and classic gold jewellery. 🇦🇪

Laguna Taller de Taracea: The artisan works at his workshop located at the Alhambra, Granada, Spain. They have produced intricate marquetry for generations. The craft involves embedding tiny pieces of wood, bone, and other materials into a wooden base to create complex, often star-shaped patterns. 🇪🇸

We were fortunate to witness the 'PS Waverley' depart from Ilfracombe quay, North Devon, England. on Wednesday 18th June, 2025. She was built in 1946. At 78 M long she is the last seagoing, passenger carrying, paddle steamer left in the world. Here going full-steam astern. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 

Desert View Watchtower located on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA. Designed by architect Mary Colter, the structure was completed in 1932 and is heavily inspired by Ancestral Puebloan architecture. 🇺🇸

Elderly, Tày gentleman from Sa Pa in Northern Vietnam. 🇻🇳 

Dartmouth Castle, is located at the mouth of the Dart River in Devon. It's a historic fortress that has guarded the harbour for over 600 years. Incoming, the paddle steamer 'Kingswear Castle', it's the last remaining coal-fired paddle steamer in the UK. Built in 1924 in Dartmouth, she has been lovingly restored and offers cruises on the River Dart. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 

The colourful village of Riomaggiore, one of the five towns in Italy's UNESCO World Heritage site, Cinque Terre. It is the southernmost village of the region, known for its steep cliffside houses and a small harbour featuring crystal-clear water. 🇮🇹

Humayun's Tomb in New Delhi, India, a UNESCO World Heritage site completed in 1572. It was commissioned by Empress Bega Begum as the tomb of her husband, the second Mughal Emperor, Humayun. The architecture served as a significant precursor and inspiration for the Taj Mahal.  🇮🇳

Basilica Cistern. This underground water cistern was the major water reservoir for Istanbul, Turkey. It was built during the reign of Emperor Constantine in the 4th Century. Is has a very eerie and atmospheric setting. It is 143m long and 65m wide and can hold up to 80,000 cubic meters (or 17.5 million gallons) of water. 🇹🇷 

In Zagreb, Croatia, a member of the Cravat Regiment—a 17th-century Croatian light cavalry guard—performs a Changing of the Guard ceremony on a beautifully coloured horse. 🇭🇷

The Bollywood remake ‘Seven dudes from New Delhi’  - they all followed the dress code. 🇮🇳 

Medusa heads used in the pillar bases at Basilica Cistern, Istanbul, Turkey. It is not entirely known where the heads came from, but they were believed to be taken from some other Roman ruin. The heads are upside down or sideways to inhibit the power of the Gorgon Medusa’s gaze. 🇹🇷 

We experienced the vibrant grace of Rajasthan! From the elegant Rajputi Poshak to the mesmerizing balance of the Chari and Bhavai pot dances, this culture is pure artistry. 🇮🇳 

Getting lost in the hidden back alleyways of New Delhi!  Beyond the main roads lies a vibrant, bustling world where local sabziwallahs (vegetable vendors) colour the pavements and multi-generational stories come alive. 🇮🇳

The Mermaid Inn in Rye, East Sussex, England is a historic, 15th-century inn located on the famous Mermaid Street, known for its quirky, timber-framed houses with picturesque charm. It boasts Norman cellars dating back to 1156 and has been rebuilt after being burnt down by French raiders in 1377. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 

Church of San Francisco in Salta, Argentina. It is known for its distinct red and yellow terracotta facade, which makes it a standout feature in the city. 🇦🇷 

Statue of Richard the Lionheart, who reigned from 1189 to 1199 is in the Old Palace Yard outside the Palace of Westminster, London. - a fine example of Gothic architecture. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 

TSS Earnslaw, a 1912 Edwardian vintage twin screw steamer plying the waters of Lake Wakatipu and here returning to base Queenstown, New Zealand. She is he only remaining commercial passenger-carrying coal-fired steamship in the southern hemisphere. 🇳🇿

A traditional Thai long-tail boat (ruea hang yao), recognizable by its slender wooden hull and decorated prow. With friendly captain. The colourful fabrics tied to the bow are traditional decorations meant to honor sea spirits and bring good luck for safe travels. Thailand 🇹🇭 

The Sultan Ahmed Mosque, commonly referred to as the Blue Mosque, stands majestically in Istanbul, Turkey. Constructed between 1609 and 1616 under the reign of Sultan Ahmed I, it serves as a remarkable example of Ottoman architecture.🇹🇷 

Native American Indian silversmith within a street market in Buenos Aires, Argentina. So friendly and exceptionally skilled at his craft. 🇦🇷

John Krejsa, my old foreman at Whisstocks boat yard, Woodbridge, England. Down below on his yacht 'Mist' an Albert Strange design, originally  built in 1907. John spent a decade meticulously restoring the vessel in Woodbridge.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
